Greenwich Polo Club is proud to present the 2017 Monty Waterbury Cup® and the
2017 Silver Cup®.
Greenwich Polo Club, the East Coast’s epicenter for summer high-goal polo, cordially
invites you and your team to compete in these historic tournaments. The Monty
Waterbury Cup is named in honor of 10-goal player, the immortal James “Monty”
Waterbury, a member of The Wanderers Polo Team who won polo’s very first U.S.
Open Championship in 1904. The annual Monty Waterbury Cup has been played
since 1922 and “Monty” was inducted to the Polo Hall of fame in 1993.
2017 is the first year Greenwich Polo Club will be hosting the Silver Cup, one of the
most prestigious 20-goal cups and the oldest tournament in the U.S. Many of the top
players in the world have competed for the Silver Cup® including no fewer than 50
USPA Hall of Famers.
The Monty Waterbury Cup will kick off our season with the first public match on
opening day Sunday June 4th, additional public matches are scheduled for Sunday
June 11th and the final on Sunday June 18th. Opening Day is expected to host at least
3,500 fans.
The Silver Cup will begin the week of June 19th with public matches scheduled for
Sunday June 25th, Sunday July 9th and the final on Sunday July 16th. The Silver Cup®
will be followed by the 2017 East Coast Open to complete the club’s 20-goal season
roster.
